Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) will shut down its system for eight hours on Sunday, October 12, to undertake maintenance of its Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS).
In a statement issued on Sunday, KRA explained that the down time will be from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will affect both internal and external users who depend on the system for cargo and customs clearance services.
The Kenya Revenue Authority wishes to inform the general public that there will be a scheduled maintenance of the Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS) on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. We regret any inconvenience caused thereby,” read the notice.
The services for the duration of the maintenance will not be available and include cargo clearance at border stations, airports, and seaports.
The iCMS system that replaced the former Simba System in 2021 is an online platform that simplifies customs procedures allowing faster clearance of goods, less documentation, and less personnel to handle them in order to maximize transparency and efficiency.
It also provides real-time commodity monitoring and feeds to KRA iTax platform in order to spot non-compliant traders.
The risk management function of the system spots high-risk consignments, and this enhances security as well as reduces cases of fraud and illegal trade.
KRA explained that the maintenance was part of routine updates aimed at enhancing the reliability and performance of the system.
Although the temporary shutdown will disrupt normal business between traders and logistics providers, stakeholders have been assured by the authority that normal business will be resumed as soon as the maintenance is complete.
