Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has called on ministries, state departments, and government agencies to submit timely and accurate financial statements, stressing that delays and inconsistencies will no longer be tolerated.

Speaking Monday at the Kenya School of Government during the unveiling of the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) Academy, Koskei emphasized that timely audits are critical for improving service delivery and enabling Parliament to adopt audit reports within the required timelines. He urged all public institutions to meet the August 31 deadline set by the National Treasury.

Koskei further noted that the newly launched academy will play a pivotal role in strengthening public financial management through enhanced auditor training, mentorship, and professional development.

“The academy will complement the Zero-Fault Audits initiative by reducing avoidable errors, sealing corruption loopholes, and institutionalizing a culture of compliance across government,” he said.

Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu and other senior government officials attended the ceremony, which marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s audit capacity.

Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo announced that the new programme—effective immediately—will integrate emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, to modernize Kenya’s audit systems and align them with global digital trends.

The OAG Academy is expected to raise the integrity of government operations, enhance accountability, and support continuous improvement in public sector financial reporting.
