Kenyan social media influencer and content creator Maureen Waititu has fired back at an online troll who attempted to body shame her on social media.

The dramatic exchange unfolded after one commenter with the username grace_by_truth commented on Maureen’s appearance, questioning whether her kids had ever sat down and asked themselves why she was “sick and skinny.” The same commenter went on, telling her that they did not like her current weight and that she appeared “sick, depressed, and problem-filled” before adding that they preferred her when she was “thick.”

The remarks did not sit well with Maureen, who was not pleased to fire back. She condemned the body shaming and was particularly upset that the troll had dragged her children into the issue.

“You call yourself @grace_by_truth yet here you are body shaming someone who doesn’t bother anyone? Then you have the audacity to mention my kids??????? Get them out of your mouth!” Maureen wrote.

She also reminded the critic and anyone else who was so quick to judge that other people’s lives and choices are their own. “Can you stop dictating a person’s life and the choices they make for themselves? Surely your life must be so perfect that instead of taking care of it, you are here criticizing a complete stranger telling them how they should look,” she went on.

Maureen ended her message with a stern warning, telling the attack it was “not the way to go about it” and shaming the user for their hurtful remarks.

The clapback has already received backing from her followers and fellow celebrities, with many commending Maureen for standing up to body shaming and protecting her children from unwarranted online assaults.
