At least six school-going students have been killed in a grisly road accident at Wiitu shopping centre on the Kitui-Kibwezi road in Kitui.
The victims include three pupils at Kyaoni Primary School and three from Kyaoni Secondary School. Five of the victims are girls.
Confirming the Friday morning accident, National Police Service spokesperson Resila Onyango said the young learners were crossing the road to their respective schools when they were knocked down by a speeding Probox.
All six died on the spot. The driver of the Probox fled the scene but later surrendered himself at Mutomo Police Station.
