KITI Opens May Intake for Technical and Business Courses

The Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) has announced its May intake, inviting students and working professionals to apply for a range of technical, industrial and business courses.

In a notice published on the government’s MyGov platform on Tuesday, March 2, the institute said it is offering KNEC-examined diploma and craft certificate programmes, alongside short-term skills courses targeting workers in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Small and Medium Industries (SMIs).

The long-term courses run between three months and two years and are spread across several departments. These include Building and Construction, Clothing and Textile, Leather and Tannery, ICT, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, Food and Beverage, and Entrepreneurship.

For those looking to upgrade their skills quickly, KITI is also offering short-term courses lasting between two days and three months. The programmes cover practical skills such as plumbing, hairdressing, garment making, welding, bread making, food and beverage production, electrical installation, CCTV installation, computer-aided design (CAD), leatherwork, and entrepreneurship.

Entry requirements vary depending on the course. Diploma programmes generally require a minimum KCSE grade of C-, while craft certificate courses require at least a D plain. Applicants can choose to study as boarders or non-boarders.

Fees for long-term courses differ based on accommodation. Boarders will pay Ksh32,500 for the first term and Ksh25,500 for subsequent terms. Non-boarders will pay Ksh23,000 for the first term and Ksh16,000 for the following terms.

Short courses are priced depending on duration and content. Two-day tailor-made classes such as juice, yoghurt and jam making cost Ksh6,000. A two-week bread-making course is set at Ksh10,000, while barista training costs Ksh25,000. Computer-aided courses are charged at Ksh10,000 per month, and CCTV installation and mobile phone repair courses cost Ksh18,000.

In its notice, the institute said it is equipped with modern training facilities, including a registered medical centre with qualified staff offering medical and counselling services to trainees.

“Applicants have until March 25 to submit their applications through the eCitizen portal or via the KITI website,” the notice stated.

Applicants are required to attach copies of their KCSE or KCPE certificates or result slips, National ID, birth certificate, and a non-refundable application fee of Ksh300 addressed to the Director, KITI.
