Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalizing Kenya’s economy from the grassroots by enhancing agricultural value chains, empowering small businesses, and expanding access to infrastructure and services.

Speaking in South Mugirango Constituency during an economic empowerment forum for micro and small-scale trader SACCOs, the Deputy President noted that the government is focused on stabilizing and growing incomes through strategic investments in agriculture and small enterprises.

Kindiki highlighted that cash crop farmers across the country are already reaping the benefits of improved prices as the government moves to streamline and support key agricultural value chains.

He said the aim is to ensure the sector remains competitive and rewarding for millions of Kenyans who depend on it.

To further promote grassroots enterprise, the Deputy President said the government is supporting small traders such as kinyozi operators, salonists, and mama mboga by encouraging them to form SACCOs to access funding and business training.

He underscored the role of the Sh28 billion NYOTA Program, which is disbursing Sh50,000 working capital to 70 youth-led businesses in each of the country’s 1,450 wards.

“This initiative is not just about giving money—it is about stimulating business expansion, creating jobs, and generating income for the youth,” he stated.

Kindiki also announced the ongoing construction of 400 modern markets across the country, with 21 of them located in Kisii County. These markets are part of the government’s economic stimulus strategy to support small traders and enhance the trading environment.

The Deputy President emphasized the importance of infrastructure in enabling economic transformation, pointing to the last mile electricity connectivity program that is connecting 32,045 new households in Kisii County to the national grid at a cost of Sh1.9 billion.

He said access to electricity is a major enabler for both businesses and households, especially in rural areas.
