Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced plans by the Government to construct a Sh290 million student hostel at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kiambaa Campus in Karuri, Kiambu County.

Kindiki said the hostel project will help address accommodation needs at the institution as the Government expands infrastructure at the campus to support the growing number of students pursuing medical and related courses.

The Deputy President made the announcement while inspecting ongoing construction works at KMTC Kiambaa, where he said the Government was committed to improving learning facilities and student welfare in public training institutions.

“The Housing Fund will separately support the institution with a 580-bed capacity student hostel accommodation at a cost of Sh290 million,” Kindiki said.

The planned hostel will provide accommodation for hundreds of students and is expected to ease pressure on existing housing facilities around the campus.

Kindiki said the Government was also undertaking additional infrastructure projects at the institution, including the second phase of the tuition block, as part of efforts to increase the campus’ capacity.

“We are heavily investing in the construction and expansion of this KMTC. The national Government will continue supporting the expansion of learning institutions across the country,” he said.

The Deputy President said investment in KMTC infrastructure was necessary to ensure students have access to adequate classrooms, accommodation and other facilities required for effective training.

He said expanding medical training institutions would also support the country’s efforts to increase the number of trained health professionals by creating more opportunities for young people to acquire professional skills.

The Sh290 million hostel will have a capacity of 580 beds, providing additional accommodation for students enrolled at the Kiambaa campus.

Kindiki said the Government would continue identifying areas requiring additional investment in education and training as institutions expand and enrolment increases.

He also linked the infrastructure investments to the broader development agenda being implemented in Kiambu County, saying improved public facilities would benefit residents by expanding access to essential services.

“We are doing enough to ensure that the region has enough development,” Kindiki said.

The Deputy President said the Government was keen on improving learning environments across the country, noting that adequate infrastructure was important in supporting students and institutions.

Kiambaa MP Njuguna Kawanjiku welcomed the Government’s investment in the campus, saying the projects would benefit students and residents of the constituency.

“We are happy for the Government development at our KMTC,” Kawanjiku said.

The MP said the construction of the hostel and expansion of tuition facilities would strengthen KMTC Kiambaa and create a better environment for students undergoing medical training.

Kawanjiku also urged residents to support development initiatives being implemented in Kiambaa and the wider region, citing investments in education and other public infrastructure.
