The government has stepped in to help the family of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha recover ownership documents of a valuable piece of land in Nairobi after the original documents, including the title deed, could not be traced.

The wife of Magoha, Dr. Barbara Magoha, who was recently appointed by the court to manage her husband’s estate, reported the loss of documents to the Lands Registry. Following her application, the government has agreed to reinstate official records to enable her to obtain a fresh title deed.

The government has accepted her application, as confirmed by a Gazette Notice dated February 21. In her application, She shall be required to recognize the risks involved in forming a new land register as part of her application.

The parcel is located in Nairobi, registered as L.R. No. 3734/1845. The original one being lost, Dr. Magoha applied for a new one, which is permitted under current legislation.

The government has provided a 60-day period for anyone who claims ownership to raise objections.

If no objections are raised, then a new entry shall be made in the updated land register, and a new title deed shall be issued for the estate of Magoha.

The former cabinet minister, known for his leadership during his time in the cabinet, has passed on.

Prof. George Magoha passed on on January 24, 2023, aged 71, after collapsing at his home in Nairobi. He died of a heart attack at Nairobi Hospital.
