Two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested in Busia County after police recovered 5.65 kilograms of cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the arrests were made on Friday, July 11, 2026, following a tip-off from members of the public regarding suspected drug trafficking activities within the Busia stage area.
According to police, officers intercepted the two suspects at the Climax Bus booking office and conducted a thorough search of their luggage. The search led to the recovery of eight packages containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 5.65 kilograms.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of KSh169,500.The suspects were immediately arrested and taken to Busia Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court. The recovered narcotics have been securely stored as exhibits pending the conclusion of investigations and court proceedings.
The National Police Service praised members of the public for providing timely information that led to the successful operation.
Police also reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling illegal drug trafficking networks across the country, urging citizens to continue sharing credible information to support efforts aimed at combating the illicit drug trade and enhancing public safety.
