Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced a series of government-led projects aimed at improving infrastructure, business opportunities, and access to essential services in Nyeri County.

Kindiki made the announcement on Friday during a resource mobilization drive for nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises from Mathira Constituency, hosted by Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.

He said the government is constructing new bitumen roads, modern fresh produce markets, and extending electricity and water connections to households and businesses.

He highlighted that the ongoing last mile electricity connectivity programme, initially targeting 1,000 households at a cost of 800 million shillings, has been expanded with an additional 600 million shillings to reach more residents.

“The current last mile electricity connectivity programme to connect 1000 new households at a cost of 800 million shillings has been upscaled by an additional 600 million shillings, and the proposed dualing of the Karatina- Nanyuki -Isiolo road will be designed to pass through Nyeri Town to ensure future growth of Nyeri Municipality into city status,”he said.

He also noted that the planned dualing of the Karatina Nanyuki Isiolo road will pass through Nyeri Town to support the future growth of Nyeri Municipality into city status.

The Deputy President further announced that 70 youth-run businesses from each ward will receive a 50,000 shilling capital injection to expand and grow their ventures.

The new fresh produce markets are also expected to boost business standards and improve livelihoods at the grassroots.

The event was attended by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, MPs Wambugu Wainaina of Othaya, Duncan Mathenge of Nyeri Town, Wainaina wa Chieni of Kieni, and local MCAs.

The initiatives form part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance county infrastructure, promote entrepreneurship, and improve the quality of life for residents across Nyeri County.
