Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has unveiled a series of government initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses and expanding economic opportunities in Nyeri County.
Speaking during a resource mobilisation drive for nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises from Mathira Constituency, hosted by Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Kindiki said the government is providing 70 youth-run businesses from each ward with a 50,000 shilling capital injection to help expand operations and create new jobs.
He also highlighted the construction of modern fresh produce markets designed to improve business standards for farmers, traders, and small-scale entrepreneurs at the grassroots level.

“These markets will not only facilitate trade but also ensure better income for our local producers,” the Deputy President said.
In addition, the government is investing in infrastructure that directly benefits businesses, including the dualing of the Karatina Nanyuki Isiolo road through Nyeri Town and the expansion of electricity and water connections to households and commercial premises.
The last mile electricity programme, initially set to reach 1,000 households at 800 million shillings, has been upscaled with an additional 600 million shillings to cover more residents and businesses.
The resource mobilisation event was attended by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, MPs Wambugu Wainaina of Othaya, Duncan Mathenge of Nyeri Town, Wainaina wa Chieni of Kieni, and local MCAs.
These initiatives, aimed at improving infrastructure, empowering youth entrepreneurs, and enhancing trade, reflect the government’s commitment to stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable business opportunities across Nyeri County.
