Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Erastus Ekitela Lokaale, has been appointed to co-facilitate a panel tasked with reviewing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a key summit hosted by the United Nations.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei confirmed Lokaale’s appointment on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, praising the selection as a significant recognition of Kenya’s growing leadership in the technology sector.

“Join me in congratulating our Permanent Representative in New York on his appointment as co-facilitator of the WSIS outcome implementation review. It’s a great honour for him and a testament to Kenya’s leadership in technology,” Sing’Oei’s statement read in part.

Lokaale will work alongside Rytis Paulauskas, the Permanent Representative of Lithuania, to lead intergovernmental consultations aimed at finalizing the review process.

Their focus will be on addressing emerging challenges and shaping future digital strategies, with an emphasis on reaffirming commitments, promoting digital inclusion, and aligning with sustainable development goals.

The review will culminate in a high-level event scheduled for July 7-11, 2025, at Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, where world leaders will discuss strategies to navigate the evolving digital landscape, particularly in light of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence.

Lokaale takes on the role following Ambassador Martin Kimani’s tenure as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
