Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged President William Ruto to immediately withdraw Kenyan police officers from the peace mission in Haiti.

Speaking at a funeral in Nyamira County, Kalonzo expressed concerns about the growing risks faced by Kenyan officers deployed there.

He highlighted not only the fatalities but also the high costs of the mission, stressing that without adequate funding from the United Nations, the government should reassess Kenya’s involvement.

These views were echoed by Democratic Alliance Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, who also called on President Ruto to reconsider the deployment and bring Kenyan officers back home to address rising criminal activities locally.

The United Nations raised alarms on Friday about the rapidly worsening situation in Haiti, describing it as a “catastrophe” driven by gang violence, widespread impunity, and a fragile political environment.

Between July 2024 and February 2025, 4,239 people were killed and 1,356 injured, with 92% of the casualties resulting from gun violence.

Kenya has deployed at least 800 police officers under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti to combat gangs.

Tragically, last week, the second Kenyan officer, Benedict Kabiru, was killed by gang members.

Earlier in February, Police Constable Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai was also killed during an operation in Ségur-Savien.
