Kenyans living abroad have urged the government to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting the welfare of citizens seeking jobs overseas.

Diaspora chairperson Dr. Omar Farah called on the state to create more avenues for young Kenyans to secure well-paying opportunities, acquire advanced skills, and eventually contribute their experience to national development upon returning home.

He made the remarks during President William Ruto’s meeting with Kenyans in the diaspora in Doha, Qatar.

President Ruto highlighted that his administration has overhauled diaspora services, cutting passport processing time from three months to just three days for applicants with verified job offers.

He noted that the government is also actively supporting Kenyans’ travel and placement in legitimate overseas jobs.

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to protecting migrant workers, Ruto said more than 600 unscrupulous labour agencies have been deregistered to curb exploitation.

He added that deployment is now strictly limited to countries with formal bilateral labour agreements with Kenya.

At the same time, the government is pursuing new agreements to expand access to skilled and professional employment opportunities abroad—aimed at ensuring Kenyan youth secure better-paying jobs, gain global exposure, and return home with valuable expertise.
