Kenyan peacekeepers serving under the UN Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO) joined local residents and fellow troops in commemorating World Environment Day through a tree planting drive at Matembo Primary School and the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) Headquarters.

Led by FIB Commander Brigadier Richard Chagonapanja, the exercise aimed to promote environmental conservation and ecosystem restoration.

Troops and civilians planted fruit and ornamental trees, later extending the initiative to Maman Noella Orphanage in Boikene.

KENQRF Contingent Commander Lt. Col. Simon Seda reaffirmed the soldiers’ commitment to making a lasting positive impact, while local leader Jacques Manoku praised the collaboration for blending security with environmental stewardship.

This year’s World Environment Day theme focused on combating plastic pollution.
