Kenya has praised the World Bank for its continued support in advancing the country’s water and sanitation sector, particularly through the National Water and Sanitation Investment Plan (NAWASIP).

During the ongoing African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS, held a side meeting with the World Bank team led by Regional Practice Director, Planet Department, Anna Wellenstein, alongside Practice Manager Soma Ghosh Moulik and Task Team leaders of various programs.

The discussions focused on key initiatives including the Water and Sanitation Development Program, the Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Program, the Kenya Water Security (Mwache Dam) Project, and the Kenya Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program (K-WASH).

These programs aim to advance universal access to safe water and sanitation services across the country.

“Together, we remain focused on delivering sustainable, climate-resilient water and sanitation solutions that improve livelihoods and drive inclusive growth across Kenya,” PS Korir said.

The meeting also reaffirmed Kenya’s participation in the upcoming Urban WASH Program and plans to upscale rural WASH initiatives to reach all counties, ensuring that no community is left behind.

The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to accelerating impact and strengthening resilience in the water and sanitation sector.
