On November 28, 2025, Kenya will break ground for the long-awaited dualling of the 170km Rironi–Naivasha–Mau Summit road, a major milestone for the Northern Corridor that links Nairobi to Western Kenya.
The upgrade is expected to ease heavy traffic that has lasted for decades, cut travel delays, regional trade will be boosted, and accidents will be reduced drastically in one of the country’s busiest highways.
That day, the government will also unveil the 58km dualling of the Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha road, which will open the southern region to new economic and logistical frontiers.
President William Ruto made the announcement of the developments after a meeting with Zhang Bingman, President of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) at State House Nairobi. Its subsidiary, China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), will be the one to implement the project.
The President commended Kenya’s solid relationship with China, saying that it has been the enabler of transformative infrastructure projects such as the Standard Gauge Railway, Nairobi Expressway, and several national road upgrades. Besides, the partnership has led to the ongoing works at Talanta Sports City, 21 new stadia, Bomas Convention Centre, and the Lamu–Ijara–Garissa road.
Moreover, he said that the pipeline is full of more landmark projects like the railway extension to Kisumu and Malaba and the building of Galana Dam in Tana River County—the projects that are expected to further enhance connectivity, economic growth, and national development.
