President William Ruto has outlined a multi-billion-shilling development agenda for Makueni County, saying the Government is prioritising infrastructure, housing, healthcare and water projects to accelerate economic growth and improve livelihoods

Speaking after hosting a delegation of grassroots leaders from Makueni County led by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse at State House, Nairobi, the President said the Government is working to unite leaders and citizens across the political divide to fast-track national development.

Ruto announced that the Government is investing KSh15 billion in affordable housing projects, the construction of 11 modern markets and hostels for university and college students in the county. He said the investments are expected to create jobs, enhance trade and provide decent accommodation for students.

The President also said KSh2.7 billion has been allocated for road development in the current financial year. Among the ongoing projects are the Emali-Matiliku and Ukia-Kyuasini-Kyaambeke roads, while construction of the Machinery-Kyumani and Wote-Kako roads is expected to begin soon.

To address persistent water shortages and boost agricultural production across the wider Ukambani region, Ruto said the Government has secured KSh10.6 billion to complete the Thwake Dam located along the Kitui-Makueni border.

On healthcare, the President said the Social Health Authority (SHA) has paid KSh2 billion to hospitals in Makueni County to support the provision of medical services, a move aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for residents.

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to delivering development projects that promote inclusive growth across the country.
