The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) has provided clarification regarding the recent discovery of a metallic object that landed in Makuku Village, Makueni. According to the agency, the object was part of a rocket that had separated during a mission.
In an official statement, the KSA explained that objects of this size—approximately 2.5 meters in diameter and weighing around 500 kg—are typically designed to either burn up upon re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere or to fall over sparsely populated areas, like oceans.
Upon learning of the incident, KSA personnel, together with local authorities, promptly arrived at the scene to secure the area and collect the debris for further examination. The agency noted that additional analysis would be conducted to trace the object’s origins.
“This remains an isolated incident, which the Agency will investigate under the established framework of International Space Law.We extend our gratitude to the residents of Makuku Village for their swift response in reporting the event to the authorities and their collaboration in ensuring public safety,” the statement read.
