Kenya Railways Dismisses Viral Job Advertisement

The Kenya Railways Corporation has disowned a job advertisement circulating online claiming the agency is recruiting more than 700 people, terming it fake.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 23, the corporation urged Kenyans to ignore the notice, emphasizing that it is not conducting any such mass recruitment at the moment.

Kenya Railways further advised job seekers to verify all vacancies exclusively through its official website to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

Although the fake notice carried the corporation’s logo and appeared convincing, officials confirmed it did not originate from the agency.

“We wish to alert members of the public about a fake job advertisement doing the rounds on various social media platforms. We strongly advise job seekers to be cautious and verify any job adverts through our website,” the corporation said.

The bogus advert had listed several positions, including Sales and Marketing Manager, Passenger Service Manager, Insurance Services Manager, Electrician, Load Controller, and CCTV Operator. It also directed applicants to send their documents to a suspicious email address by November 30 an address that is not linked to Kenya Railways.

This warning comes just days after the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) also cautioned the public about a fraudulent job offer letter circulating in its name.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 18, the PPB confirmed the “offer letters” were fake and did not originate from the board. The agency urged anyone who received the document to report the matter to the police or through its official communication channels.

The board reiterated that it does not issue job offers through unofficial platforms nor ask applicants for any form of payment.

“We urge the public to exercise caution. Do not share your personal information and do not make any payments to individuals claiming to represent the Pharmacy and Poisons Board,” PPB stated.

“These messages are not from the Board. Do not share your details or make any payment. Report any suspicious activity immediately to law enforcement,” it added.
