The national government has officially issued a mining license to Chinsuan International, marking the launch of the region’s first diatomite extraction project.
The license was handed over during a ceremony graced by Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, who described the initiative as a “game-changer” for the local economy and a critical milestone in Kenya’s extractive industry development.“ Tiaty Constituency is rich in extractive resources such as diatomite, fluorspar, and rubies,” said CS Joho. “If sustainably harnessed, these resources have the potential to transform the lives of the people of Tiaty and significantly boost the country’s GDP.”
Chuanshan International is expected to begin full-scale operations in July this year. The project is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote resource-based industrialization and inclusive growth across Kenya’s marginalized regions.
Joho urged local residents to embrace education, peace, and cooperation to ensure that the mining activities bring lasting socio-economic benefits to the community. He emphasized that the initiative is not just about mineral extraction but a bold step toward sustainable development and economic revival in Tiaty.
The diatomite project is anticipated to create employment opportunities, improve infrastructure, and attract more investment to the region, positioning Tiaty as a key player in Kenya’s mining sector.
