Award winning journalist Larry Madowo has responded after questions spread about his absence from the sabasaba demonstrations in Kenya. On his social media platforms, Larry shared that his absence was not intentional but it was due to a scheduled assignment in Nigeria. The CNN reporter further shared that his assignments go beyond national borders. Larry shared, “I am in Nigeria. We planned this weeks ago and I could not cancel it.My job is international correspondent and not Kenyan correspondent.”
Larry further claimed that a Kenyan politician allegedly paid goods a sum of ksh 100,000 to attack him during the Sabasaba protests coverage. “A Kenyan leader has offered paid goons an extra Ksh100,000 if they attack me while covering the protests, beat me up and damage our equipment,” Madowo stated.
Madowo claims the attackers were not only instructed to physically harm him but also to destroy CNN’s gear during live coverage. Madowo further noted that some pro-government voices are now calling for his arrest—part of what he described as an ongoing intimidation campaign.
