Lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has warned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against using what he termed “propaganda” and political theories to influence investigations into the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
Miguna said investigators should rely on credible evidence to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing.
“Credible material EVIDENCE should lead investigators to those who committed crimes. Nothing else. Not anger. Not propaganda. Not politics. Not voodoo. Not myths,” Miguna said.
He directly addressed Gachagua in the statement, accusing him of pushing theories that could interfere with the search for those behind Mutiso’s murder.
“Mr. @rigathi wants political propaganda, voodoo and choreographed hypotheses to lead investigators to those who perpetrated a murder. This is wrong,” Miguna said.
He urged those involved in the case to avoid what he described as convenient answers to a complex criminal investigation.
“Let us avoid convenient solutions to complex societal problems,” he added.
Miguna’s remarks come as Gachagua continues to question the handling of the investigation into Mutiso’s killing.
The former Deputy President has alleged that police officers could have been involved in the murder and has demanded answers from the security agencies investigating the case.
Gachagua has also claimed that one of the police officers arrested during the investigation was released after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen allegedly made a phone call.
The allegation has added another layer to the increasingly contentious investigation.
Murkomen has yet to publicly confirm the allegation or explain the circumstances surrounding the officer’s alleged release.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, however, has maintained that its investigation is being guided by evidence.
DCI Director Mohamed Amin recently revealed that investigators had identified key suspects in the murder and were pursuing several leads, including communication between people believed to have information about the case.
Amin also revealed that Gachagua had been in communication with one of the main suspects in the investigation.
“Unfortunately, what came out very, very clearly is that Honourable Rigathi Gachagua was in communication with one of our main suspects in this matter,” Amin said.
The DCI boss added that Gachagua also appeared to have been in communication with a boda boda rider.
The revelation sparked a fresh political exchange, with Gachagua maintaining pressure on the authorities over the investigation.
However, communication with a suspect does not by itself establish involvement in a crime.
The focus now remains on the evidence investigators have gathered, the identities of those behind Mutiso’s killing and whether anyone attempted to interfere with the investigation.
For Miguna, the answer should come from the evidence and not political accusations.
His latest remarks have therefore added another voice to the growing debate over how the high-profile murder should be investigated and who should be held accountable.
