Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sister-in-law, Margaret Karungaru, joined President William Ruto during the first day of his Mt. Kenya development tour.
Karungaru is the widow of former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, ex-DP Gachagua’s elder brother.
Notably, Gachagua and President Ruto do not see eye to eye and Karungaru’s presence during the tour drew back memories of allegations that Gachagua was mistreating his late brother’s family.
Speaking in Nyeri on Tuesday, April 1, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki acknowledged Karungaru’s presence and revealed that the widow had been offered a job by President Ruto.
"Dr. Margaret Karungaru, the widow of former Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua, has been appointed by Ruto as a commissioner at the National Gender and Equality Commission, which addresses women's issues," said Kindiki.
Karungaru was appointed to the plum position in April 2023.
