President William Samoei Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the European Union following high-level talks with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, President Ruto described the European Parliament as a key partner in fostering closer relations between Kenya, Africa, and the European Union. The discussions focused on enhancing economic, digital, and institutional cooperation for mutual benefit.

The two leaders welcomed progress under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the EU–Kenya Digital Partnership, particularly advancements in the Digital Dialogue and Data Adequacy process.

“We welcomed progress under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the EU-Kenya Digital Partnership, particularly on the Digital Dialogue and Data Adequacy process, which will strengthen digital trade, attract investment and enhance Kenya’s position as a leading digital hub,’Ruto said.

According to Ruto, these initiatives are expected to boost digital trade, attract investment, and strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading digital hub in Africa.

The talks also emphasized the need to fast-track the Cross-Border Trade in Services framework, aimed at opening new opportunities for businesses in both Kenya and Europe.

The President noted that Kenya’s youthful, highly educated, and tech-savvy workforce remains a key driver in unlocking such opportunities.

Beyond trade and investment, the discussions also touched on broader global issues. President Ruto called for reforms to the global financial architecture to improve access to affordable financing and ensure fairer treatment of developing economies.

He further urged support for reforms within global governance institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to make the international system more inclusive, equitable, and representative.
