Kenya is set to deepen its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate digital transformation through expanded digital skills training, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and improved connectivity.
ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo disclosed this after a formal visit to AWS offices in Nairobi where he says, they discussed ways to strengthen their joint engagement in the digital economy sector.
Kabogo revealed that the AWS re/Start programme has largely provided cloud computing courses to thousands of local people. The placement rate of the participants has reached as high as 45 per cent
“We agreed on the need to scale such programmes by leveraging existing digital infrastructure, including Jitume Digital Hubs, and strengthening partnerships with universities and other tertiary institutions. Equally important is ensuring the quality of training and equipping our young people with practical, industry-relevant skills that respond to the evolving demands of the digital economy.” said Kabogo
The government and AWS agreed that digital skills training will be stepped up through the use of such things like infrastructure already in place, Jitume Digital Hubs, and by developing ties with universities and other tertiary, level education facilities.
Kabogo highlighted the necessity of preserving high levels of training standards and the development of young peoples practical, industry, related skills to keep abreast of the digital economys changing demands.
Thee collaboration between the two is also planned to support e-government, artificial intelligence and connectivity in particular in rural communities which aren’t digitally connected.
The event was graced by AWS Public sector Head Sub, Saharan Africa Robin Njiru ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui Konza Technopolis CEO Paul Okwiri and other senior government officials.
