Deputy President Kithure Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that all parts of Kenya receive equitable development to improve the lives of its citizens.

He made the remarks on Monday while commissioning the Maralal Municipality Market in Samburu West, Samburu County.

The Deputy President emphasized the administration’s focus on regional development, noting that every region should benefit equally from national growth initiatives.

“My work is to assist the President in delivering development to the people of Kenya, and I will ensure Samburu is not left behind and benefits from development like every other part of our country,” Kindiki said.

The Maralal Municipality Market, which is part of a nationwide initiative to build over 400 modern markets, was constructed at a cost of Sh73 million. Of this, Samburu County contributed Sh23 million.

The market is equipped with cold rooms, dedicated spaces for lactating mothers, children’s play areas, and ICT hubs that will be freely accessible to the youth.

“This market will provide traders with decent working spaces. We promised to construct modern markets for small-scale traders and mama mboga to work in dignified places,” Kindiki added.

While in the region, Kindiki also inspected the near-complete Yamo Dam project, which has already cost the government Sh2.2 billion. Once finished, the dam will store 1.5 billion liters of water, providing a reliable source of water for Samburu and Maralal residents. Only reticulation and piping work remain before the dam is fully operational.

“The final work is piping from the dam to the town. In one year, it will be complete, and the people of Samburu and Maralal will have a reliable source of water,” Kindiki assured.

Additionally, Kindiki announced that the tarmacking of the Maralal-Baragoi Road would begin soon, as funds for the project had already been allocated.

“We have the funds to tarmac the road, and the contractor will be here anytime from now,” he said.

The Deputy President also highlighted the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the region, focusing on the eradication of banditry and the restoration of lasting security.

“We will not sleep pretty until peace and security are fully restored in Samburu,” Kindiki vowed.
