Kericho Governor Erick Mutai has been impeached.
During the Wednesday, October 2, Kericho County Assembly session, 31 MCAs voted in support of the impeachment motion against Mutai.
The governor was accused of gross misconduct, violation of the constitution and abuse of office.
For instance, Mutai is accused of operating with impunity by allegedly leading the invasion of a piece of land owned by a private resident within Kericho town and reserving the land as a dumpsite without NEMA’s approval.
Also, the governor is accused of forcing several female individuals to engage in inappropriate sexual acts.
The assembly proceeded with the motion despite a High Court in Kericho temporarily stopping the impeachment process.
