President William Ruto on Friday presided over the destruction of more than 6,000 illicit firearms at the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’, Kajiado County, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity and violence across the country.
The firearms, recovered between 2022 and 2025, were publicly destroyed in a symbolic move that the President said underscores Kenya’s unwavering focus on restoring safety and order in all communities.
“The destruction of more than 6,000 illegal firearms signals our total focus in tackling insecurity and violence in our communities,” President Ruto said during the ceremony, which was attended by top security officials and community leaders.
The Head of State also issued a stern warning against rogue police officers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reforming the security sector.
“We also commit to protect Kenyans from rogue police officers. Criminal elements in uniform must be held to account,” he stated.
The President urged continued collaboration between security agencies and the public to ensure a safer Kenya, pledging to strengthen accountability and professionalism within the police service.
