People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has rubbished reports suggesting that the United Opposition has agreed on a political line-up for the 2027 elections, terming the claims premature and misleading.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, Karua cautioned against leaking unverified proposals, insisting that no such discussions have taken place among the coalition’s principal leaders.
“I want to caution those among our ranks to stop leaking information that has not been agreed upon, including proposed line-ups. If any proposals from technical teams have not been debated by the principals, they are not the truth,” she said.
Karua stressed that the opposition’s focus should remain on its core agenda, not on early power-sharing talks.
“If there are proposals, and I wouldn’t know because nothing has been tabled, stop giving people positions. Let the process take its course,” she added.
While confirming that organisational efforts are ongoing, Karua noted that the coalition’s unity must go beyond simply calling for President William Ruto’s exit.
“We not only want Ruto and his entire regime to go; we also want a transformed Kenya,” she said.
The PLP leader disclosed that technical teams within the opposition are working on coalition-building strategies and governance proposals, particularly on issues of rule of law and corruption.
Karua reiterated her hardline stance against engaging in talks with the Kenya Kwanza government, branding it dishonest and driven by impunity.
“Dialogue with the current regime is not an option,” she declared, recalling that she had opposed the 2023 National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) process even while part of Azimio.
“That process achieved nothing for ordinary Kenyans. It only benefited political elites,” Karua remarked.
