Police in Nairobi have shot dead a suspected robber during a confrontation with a gang that was reportedly attacking members of the public in Dandora.
The incident happened along Councillor Opundo Road after officers from Dandora Police Station responded to reports of several armed men robbing people in the area.
According to the National Police Service, the suspects opened fire after encountering the officers, prompting them to return fire.
One of the suspects was shot during the exchange. He later died from his injuries.
However, the other two suspects ran away to the railway line and remained at large during the search by the police.
The police also retrieved a gun from the location together with three mobile phones and an ID card which was related to the suspects.
This comes after reports of increasing cases of robbery against civilians in various parts of Nairobi.
Recently, videos posted on various social media showed suspects snatching phones and other valuable items from citizens in areas such as Nairobi central business district and around Globe Roundabout.
According to sources, the police have also conducted raids in various parts of the city like Spring Valley, Parklands and Runda in the effort of finding suspected criminal gangs.
The raids have led to retrieval of guns and phones stolen, according to the police.
The robbery in Dandora is part of efforts of tackling violent robberies by security organs in Nairobi.
The police have advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities using emergency phone numbers 999 and 911 or DCI.
