Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda remains the fastest and most effective way to lift Kenyans out of poverty and transform the nation into a powerhouse within a generation.

Speaking on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Nkubu Stadium in Imenti South, Meru County, Kindiki presided over an empowerment drive that brought together 13,000 members of various nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises from across all wards in the constituency.

The Deputy President said the government is committed to supporting grassroots traders, SACCOs, and community-based organizations to grow their businesses, noting that every successful enterprise strengthens household incomes and chips away at poverty.

“Bottom-Up Economics is the best and quickest way to transform our country from the margins into a powerhouse within one generation.

For every small traders’ group, SACCO or CBO supported to expand their business, we are striking an additional blow for empowerment and against the debilitating effects of household poverty,” Kindiki said.

The event was attended by a host of leaders, including Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi, South Imenti MP Dr. Shadrack Mwiti, Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri, Imenti Central MP Kirima Nguchine, Imenti North MP Rahim Dawood, Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu, Igembe Central MP Dan Kiili, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi.

Others included nominated MP Dorothy Ikiara, Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara, Masinga MP Joshua Mwalyo, and Taveta MP John Bwire. Meru Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, members of the County Assembly, leaders of beneficiary groups, and local residents also joined the empowerment event.
