The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has pledged to uphold the values and ideals of its late leader and founding father, Raila Amolo Odinga, as the party embarks on a new chapter following his death.

Speaking in Nairobi after the Central Committee’s first meeting since Odinga’s passing, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna reaffirmed the party’s commitment to defending the moral and democratic principles that defined Odinga’s decades-long political journey.

“It is our moral duty to continue with the struggle for the ideals that the late Raila stood for — good governance, greater freedoms, and wider democratic space,” said Sifuna.

He emphasized that unity remains ODM’s strongest pillar and the best way to honor Odinga’s towering legacy, even as reports of internal wrangles emerge ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting came amid growing tension within the party, with a youthful faction led by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino said to be positioning itself for greater influence within ODM’s leadership, particularly in Luo Nyanza, the party’s traditional stronghold.

Last week, the National Executive Council (NEC) ratified the appointment of Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga as interim party leader, a move aimed at ensuring continuity and preserving the Odinga family’s symbolic leadership during the transition period.
