Murang’a Governor and lawyer Dr. Irungu Kang’ata has dismissed a recent Nation Media Group exposé aired on NTV, which questioned the compensation process for victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max crash in 2019, calling it “misleading and inaccurate.”
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Governor Kang’ata clarified that all the victims he represented in the United States court proceedings were duly compensated and that none of them has raised complaints regarding the matter.

“All real victims whom we represented in the United States got paid, and NONE has complained. NONE of the eight individuals mentioned in the story were compensated,” Kang’ata stated.
The governor emphasized that the case, which dates back to 2019, had long been concluded with compensation settled to satisfaction for the families he represented following the tragic crash that killed all 157 people on board, including 32 Kenyans.

He further refuted any claims that he personally or professionally benefited from his involvement in the matter, including through any Senate engagements.
“My Senate debate on the issue did not confer any gain either to myself or to any purported staff,” he added.
Dr. Kang’ata, a former Senate Majority Chief Whip and practicing advocate before becoming governor, reiterated his commitment to using his legal expertise to fight for the rights of Kenyans—both locally and internationally.
“I’ll continue using my legal skills to fight for Kenyans successfully, including in the US and wherever else,” he affirmed.
