Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi today announced that the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), an independent, membership-based organization operating in over 30 countries globally, has expressed a strong interest in relocating its offices from South Sudan to Kenya.
This strategic move comes in recognition of Kenya’s critical role in regional peace initiatives and the country’s stability, which the NPA deems essential for its ongoing humanitarian work.
Mudavadi made the announcement following a meeting with Mr. Raymond Johansen, the Secretary General of NPA, to discuss the organization’s continued commitment to enhancing the quality of life and promoting democratic, just, and safe societies in the regions where it operates.
“Norwegian People’s Aid has shown great interest in making Kenya its operational hub, which reflects the growing recognition of our country’s stability and pivotal role in advancing peace efforts within the region,” said Mudavadi. “This collaboration will not only benefit the NPA’s mission but will also strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading center for peace and development in Africa.”
The Prime Cabinet Secretary was joined by Hon. Khamis Chome Abdi, Member of Parliament for Voi Constituency, in welcoming the NPA’s commitment to relocating to Kenya.
They discussed the potential collaborations between the Kenyan government and NPA, aimed at bolstering Kenya’s leadership in fostering peace, security, and sustainable development across the region.
Mr. Johansen highlighted that the NPA’s decision to shift its offices to Kenya is motivated by the country’s reputation for peacebuilding and stability, both within the East African region and beyond.
He reiterated the organization’s focus on supporting communities through humanitarian aid, capacity-building programs, and advocacy for human rights.
“We are excited about our new chapter in Kenya,” Johansen said. “This move underscores our belief in Kenya’s strategic importance in advancing peace, security, and development across Africa.”
The relocation of NPA’s offices to Kenya is expected to bolster the country’s standing as a global hub for peace and development initiatives, attracting further international organizations committed to similar causes.
