KAA debunks armed goons claims at Kisumu Airport

The Kenya Airports Authority has sought to clear the air over claims that armed individuals had taken over the Kisumu International Airport on Saturday.

In a statement, the KAA said that there was no security breach at the airport, and no unauthorized individuals gained access to the facility.

The claims began with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who was on his way to Kakamega for the Linda Wananchi tour. According to Sifuna, his team had to change their route because of armed individuals at the Kisumu Airport.

Sifuna said that it was not clear how armed individuals could be at an international airport, asking if it was possible for passengers to be safe. There were pictures on social media of armed individuals at the airport, with one of them in an open area with other individuals.

KAA said that the pictures being shared were not of any activities taking place inside the airport, but they were outside. According to KAA, at no point were unauthorized individuals, groups, or organized unlawful elements present within the airport.

At the time, there were already security committees, including the Airport Security Committee and Border Management Committee, at the airport, and everything was going on as usual.
