Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a renewed government crackdown on political gangs, saying security agencies are scaling up both short-term enforcement and long-term preventive strategies.

Murkomen said security operations in recent weeks have led to the arrest of hundreds of individuals linked to criminal gangs, with authorities also recovering crude weapons and communication devices, a development he said points to the growing sophistication of organized crime networks.

He noted, however, that enforcement alone is not enough to address the problem, stressing the need for complementary social, economic, and governance interventions to sustainably deal with gang-related crime.

“We are, therefore, strengthening the legal and policy framework governing organized crime, including provisions that enhance penalties and facilitate the seizure of assets derived from criminal activities,”he said.

The Interior CS said the government is strengthening the legal and policy framework on organized crime, including measures to enhance penalties and enable the seizure of assets acquired through criminal activities.
