Kenya’s U17 women’s national football team, the Junior Starlets, are preparing for a crucial World Cup qualifier match against Uganda in March 2025.

This will be their first competitive fixture since their historic debut at the U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

Kenya received a bye in the opening round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers and will now face Uganda in a two-legged tie.

The first match is scheduled for March 7–9, 2025, with the return leg set for March 14–16, 2025.

Head Coach Mildred Cheche spoke about the team’s preparations, saying, “Our focus is firmly on the upcoming qualifiers, and we are fully committed to our goal of qualifying for the World Cup.” She also emphasized the importance of the recently concluded Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) in Tanzania, which served as a key part of their build-up.

“The GIFT tournament was a great opportunity for us. We had two Kenyan teams competing, with one finishing in third place and the other in fifth. It gave us invaluable insight into our players’ abilities in a competitive environment, helping us fine-tune their skills ahead of the qualifiers.”

The Junior Starlets are ready for an exciting challenge as they aim to secure a spot in the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup, with both teams eager to represent East Africa on the global stage.
