National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has dismissed recent corruption allegations made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi against the Kenya Kwanza administration, branding them as “baseless and opportunistic.”

Speaking during the Eid Baraza in Mombasa, Junet questioned Muturi’s credibility, urging him to first explain financial discrepancies surrounding the construction of Bunge Tower, a project whose cost controversially escalated during his tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Service Commission.“Before pointing fingers, Muturi must tell Kenyans how the Bunge Tower project jumped from KSh6 billion to a staggering KSh27 billion. That happened under his watch,” Junet stated.

He accused the former Speaker of attempting to stay politically relevant after being dropped from President William Ruto’s Cabinet earlier this year. Junet insisted that if Muturi has evidence of corruption within the current government, he should submit it to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) or the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instead of making public accusations.

Yhe Suna East Member of parliament remarks add to the growing backlash from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders against Muturi’s recent claims of government mismanagement and corruption.

The controversy has sparked renewed calls for transparency and scrutiny of major state projects, particularly those initiated or overseen during Muturi’s time in office.
