Ugandan music icon Jose Chameleone has taken a firm legal stance against popular blogger Janie Namukasa after she spread false rumors about his health and legal troubles. Namukasa claimed that the celebrated singer had been imprisoned in the United States following a dispute with his friend and caregiver, Juliet Zewedde.
The allegations, which were shared in a video on Namukasa’s social media, prompted Chameleone’s legal team to respond with a cease and desist letter demanding a public apology and financial compensation. The letter, dated February 18, 2025, called out Namukasa for making “false and malicious statements” that tarnished the singer’s reputation. The legal team is seeking a sum of 100 million Ugandan shillings, approximately Ksh 3.5 million, as restitution for the damages caused by the defamatory claims.
In the wake of the accusations, Chameleone took to his own social media account to clarify the situation. The singer, who has been battling a serious illness, reassured his fans that he was not in jail, but rather receiving medical care in a hospital. “In hospital for my surgery, I thank you all for the love and prayers. All will be well in Jesus’ name,” he wrote, addressing the speculation.
Chameleone’s health struggles began late last year when he was admitted to a hospital in Uganda. His condition worsened, prompting his transfer to the United States for specialized treatment. In a heartfelt message shared with fans, Chameleone expressed gratitude for the love and support he had received during his hospitalization. He also thanked his caregivers, particularly his close friend, Juliet Zewedde, who had selflessly traveled with him to the U.S. to ensure he received proper medical care.
“This festive season marks a first for me – spending it away from the stage and away from all of you, my beloved fans. Unfortunately, my hospitalization has disrupted our annual tradition of celebrating together through music,” Chameleone wrote, reflecting on the impact his health issues had on his career. “I will be taking a temporary break from performing until I’ve made a full recovery.”
Despite his health setbacks, Chameleone remains hopeful and determined to return to the stage once his recovery is complete. “I will return stronger and better, God willing,” he assured his fans.
Chameleone’s legal action against Namukasa highlights the growing importance of responsible online behavior and the consequences of spreading misinformation. With his cease and desist letter, Chameleone is making it clear that he will not tolerate false and malicious claims that could damage his reputation. As he focuses on his recovery, the artist has received an outpouring of support from his fans, who eagerly await his return to the stage.
