President William Ruto has announced a KSh5 billion government initiative to revive stalled Mau Mau road projects across Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyandarua, and Nyeri counties, in a renewed push to improve infrastructure in Central Kenya.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the Mau Mau Road Lot 1A and Lot 1B in Lari, Kiambu County, President Ruto revealed that Kiambu County alone has received a substantial allocation of KSh3.6 billion.
The roads are expected to ease the transportation of people and goods, enhancing connectivity between Kiambu and neighboring counties.“The Mau Mau roads are key to the economic revival of this region. They will open up markets and ensure farmers and traders move their produce with ease,” said Ruto.
In addition to infrastructure development, the Head of State disclosed that KSh500 million has been set aside to enhance electricity connectivity in Kiambu County.
President Ruto also noted ongoing efforts to address the housing gap, announcing the construction of seven affordable housing projects in Kiambu County. The projects will deliver 16,000 housing units, part of the government’s broader Affordable Housing Programme.
To boost local trade under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the President said 25 modern markets are being built in the county. Eleven of these markets have surpassed the 50 per cent completion mark.
While in Lari, the President officially opened the Jitume ICT Lab at Lari Technical and Vocational College. He lauded the programme’s role in creating digital job opportunities for the youth.“The Jitume programme is transforming lives by equipping young people with digital skills and connecting them to online job opportunities globally,” Ruto remarked.
