Morocco has committed to increasing its imports of Kenyan tea and coffee as relations between the two nations continue to strengthen.
The pledge was made during a high-level meeting in Rabat between Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
The leaders discussed expanding cooperation across several key sectors, including trade, tourism, agriculture, industry, and education.
Prime Minister Akhannouch affirmed that Morocco would give priority to Kenyan tea and coffee in its import plans, potentially opening up a significant new market for two of Kenya’s leading agricultural exports.
“We also agreed to initiate immediate bilateral engagements aimed at fully unlocking Morocco’s market potential for Kenyan goods and expertise,” said Mudavadi.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Akhannouch also expressed his intention to visit Kenya at Mudavadi’s invitation, accompanied by a delegation of Moroccan investors to further strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.
Mudavadi was joined in Rabat by Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, Deputy Director for Africa Affairs Lazarus Muganda, and senior embassy officer Abdullahi Mohamed.
