The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has disbursed Sh9.46 billion to support 309,178 university students across the country.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said the funds comprise Sh5.76 billion for tuition fees and Sh3.7 billion for student upkeep.
The CS urged students to check their HELB portals to confirm receipt of the money and access details of their loan accounts.
Ogamba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining higher education financing, saying no student should be denied access to learning due to financial hardship.
“The Government will continue to provide the requisite funding to ensure that higher education remains accessible and affordable,” he said.
The disbursement comes as universities grapple with increased enrolment and financial pressures, with HELB loans remaining a critical lifeline for many students.
