Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) Board Chairperson Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea has been released on bond after pleading not guilty to multiple bribery-related charges at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
Kabeabea, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore on Monday, is accused of soliciting and receiving more than KSh6 million to shield a businessman from arrest and prosecution over counterfeit motor vehicle parts.
According to the charge sheet, the ACA chair allegedly solicited KSh5 million, an additional KSh1 million, and a further KSh300,000 from businessman Du Zhisheng on November 11, 2025. He is also accused of receiving KSh144,500 through a mobile number registered to a third party, identified as Ntorui Erastus Kaibi.
The prosecution further charged Kabeabea with acquiring proceeds of crime, contrary to the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, linked to the money he allegedly received through the bribery scheme.
Kabeabea denied all the charges and was released on a KSh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of KSh1 million. The court ordered him to surrender his passport within 14 days and warned him against interfering with witnesses.
In addition, Magistrate Okore issued a directive barring any discussion of the case in the media as the matter proceeds.
