Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to find out if there is a Russian syndicate involved with some Kenyans allegedly stranded in Russia under mysterious circumstances.

The statement from the IG comes as the public is becoming more curious about how some Kenyans got to Russia with the questions being raised as to the nature of their engagements and the procedures that were followed before their departure.

Kanja told the media in Mombasa that after a high-level security meeting with regional police commanders and directors at police headquarters:

“Our officers from various departments are putting their heads together to research the facts of this issue and ensure that the perpetrators face the wrath of the law,” .He noted that it is an investigation not to miss anything in the whole process.

There are concerns over the recruitment and possible travelling of Kenyans to Russia who may have been misled. According to some reports, individuals may have been enticed to go to Russia under unclear situations.

In addition, Kanja ordered the regional police officers to step up their fight against crime in their respective areas. He said that the police and other agencies will not hesitate to use force against anyone who threatens the public.

He assured the Kenyan public that their security is still the highest priority and pointed out that work is going on heavily in partnership between regional commanders and specialized units to step up the fight against crime and take down crime networks.

During a security meeting in Mombasa, the top police leaders from all over the country came together to discuss new security threats and come up with law enforcement plans that would be effective across the regions.
