The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has once again declared its readiness to conduct free, fair, transparent, and peaceful by-elections that will take place on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
In a statement made in Nairobi, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon called on all the candidates and political party members who are going to the elections to voluntarily comply with the electoral code of conduct. He warned that the Commission would not tolerate any form of mob justice during the elections.
The upcoming elections will be the first under the new IEBC team and the new commissioners who took office in July 2025. The mini polls will be conducted in six constituencies, sixteen wards, and one county, thus, the reconstituted electoral body will be tested heavily.
On the other hand, police in Tana River County have arrested a middle-aged man in Mororo who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl. A local policeman from the area intervened just in time to save the suspect from a mob that wanted to lynch him after the incident.
The townspeople have been concerned about the suspect’s allegedly repeated involvement in similar acts and thus they request that the case be handled promptly.
The community leader, Osman Wako, lamented the defilement and early pregnancy cases in the area which are increasing rapidly and he advised the parents to be watchful and take more responsibility for the safety of their children.
