Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were is dead.
Were was shot dead in Nairobi on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, reportedly by unidentified gunmen riding on a motorbike near City Mortuary.
The ODM lawmaker succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
In the shooting incident, as narrated by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, at around 7:30 pm, a white Toyota Crown vehicle carrying Were stopped at a red traffic light on Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout.
A motorcycle carrying a rider and a pillion passenger then stopped alongside the car.
The pillion passenger, in turn, approached the vehicle and fired shots at the passenger side before jumping back onto the motorcycle and speeding away.
The driver of the car and a male passenger, who were both unharmed, immediately rushed MP Were to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the nature of the crime appears to be both targeted and premeditated.
