Huddah Monroe, the Kenyan entrepreneur and beauty mogul, has publicly called out local influencers who charge inflated rates in US dollars for their services. Taking to social media, Huddah, also known as Alhuda Njoroge, expressed her frustration with the inconsistency in rate cards and how some influencers seem to increase their charges once they realize who is making the inquiry.
In a candid post, Huddah shared her thoughts on the matter, stating, “It’s insane how people have different rate cards for different people, especially when it comes to me, Alhuda! I don’t use influencers and I am forever sold out! It’s all by God’s grace. We are forever sold out! I rarely use influencers, because when it comes to Rich Beauty, the price triples,” she revealed. She added that a survey conducted by her team showed that some influencers hiked their rates once they knew she was the one inquiring about their services.
Huddah’s critique didn’t stop there. She also called out influencers who send their rate cards in USD, despite never having traveled beyond Nairobi. “And refrain from sending rate cards in USD when you have never set foot out of Nairobi. It doesn’t make you look expensive or extra. They all messaged the same influencers I was DMing,” she said, highlighting how the inflated rates often appear misleading or unjustified.
Her comments have sparked a broader conversation about the transparency and ethics of influencer marketing in Kenya. Many have echoed her sentiments, agreeing that the practice of charging higher rates based on name recognition or in foreign currency is detrimental to the local industry. Huddah, known for her no-nonsense attitude and business acumen, continues to stand by her position, urging influencers to maintain honesty and fairness in their dealings.
