The High Court has temporarily barred the National Assembly from vetting President William Ruto’s nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued conservatory orders suspending the process pending the determination of a case challenging the legality of the appointments.

President Ruto nominated Erastus Edung Ethekon as the next IEBC chairperson, and Anne Nderitu, Moses Mukwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor, Francis Odhiambo, and Fahima Abdalla as commissioners.

The vetting process has been suspended until May 29, when Justice Mugambi is expected to rule on the matter.

Operation Linda Jamii had filed a petition challenging the appointments, saying they violated constitutional provisions on political consultation and public participation.
