Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale today held a cordial meeting with Algeria’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Farid Ouahid Dahmane, in a discussion that signaled fresh momentum in deepening health cooperation between the two nations.

The engagement focused on how Kenya and Algeria can strengthen health systems together, especially as Kenya pushes forward with its Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

Both sides revisited commitments made in 2015 to set up a Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), agreeing that the time is right to accelerate progress.

Their conversation also drew from the 2022–2023 Kenyan missions to Algeria, where officials noted the country’s impressive pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity  an area seen as a strategic opportunity for collaboration.

At the centre of the talks was a proposed Framework for Cooperation in Health Products and Technologies (HPTs). The framework aims to support local production of essential medical products, improve regional resilience and secure Kenya’s health supply chain so the country is better prepared for future health emergencies.

Duale noted that Kenya is keen on partnerships that not only reduce the cost of healthcare but also build long-term sustainability for the sector.

The CS was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Dr. Ouma Oluga and Mary Muthoni, alongside Director-General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, all of whom expressed confidence that stronger ties with Algeria will unlock new opportunities for Kenya’s health sector.
